About Oasis

The church was established in February 1999. Pastor Patrick Matroos (the minister) and Gina Matroos are the founders of the church - they have watched the church grow from just their own family to the extended fellowship they have today. In April 2003, the members of the church decided to start an outreach program in Eersteriver in order to provide those who have little or nothing with food to eat.

Background
The Metropolitan Spatial Development Framework (MSDF, 1996) of the Cape Metropolitan has classified the suburb known as Blue Downs (a problematic South East Quadrant of the city) as a more disadvantaged part where economic and social opportunities are scarce. A place of worship are recognised as an important community facility in the urban fabric which play an integral role in the community development and social upliftment as it provide essential facilities to the surrounding community. Because the suburb is sitiuated far from economic opprtunity it can be regarded as an ecnomically depressed suburb. Therefore we are rendering an important (valuable) community facility where otherwise few well-maintained public institutions exist. Oasis Family Fellowship is more than just a church. It performs a number of activities and supply valuable servcies to the surrounding community which include:

• Soup kitchens for homeless people
• A proposed library for children
• A place of instruction for adult education, youth development and small business entrepeneurial skills development
• Employment Bureau
• Counselling

Our Vision
The Spirit of the sovereign Lord is upon me, because the Lord has anointed me to preach good news to the poor, to heal the broken-hearted and to announce freedom to the prisoners and a release from darkness for the captives and to comfort those who mourn. Luke 4:18
